Thailand’s Ayutthaya Temples and River Cruise from Bangkok

Bangkok Thailand

$75.00

Combine a visit from Bangkok to Ayutthaya — the UNESCO-listed ancient capital of Siam — with a riverboat trip on the Chao Phraya River. An informative guide highlights Thailand’s fascinating history as you explore Ayutthaya temples, stone ruins and Buddha statues in the old capital of Thailand, which was ransacked by invading Burmese in the 18th century. This full-day tour includes lunch and returns you to Bangkok by boat.

After hotel pickup, your vehicle makes the journey north from Bangkok to Ayutthaya Historical Park, located 53 miles (85 km) away. The old capital of Thailand (aka the Kingdom of Siam) from 1350 until 1767, Ayutthaya was largely destroyed by the Burmese and is now a UNESCO World Heritage site full of intact temples, monasteries, palace ruins and beheaded Buddhist statues.

On arrival, set out on foot with your knowledgeable guide who leads you to notable Ayutthaya temples such as Wat Phra Si Sanphet — part of the Ancient Royal Palace ruins — as well as Wat Mongkhon Bophit, Wat Yai Chai Mongkol and Wat Phanan Choeng, known for its gilded seated Buddha statue.

Marvel at the Buddha’s head resting in the tree roots overtaking Wat Mahathat and visit the well-preserved summer palace of King Rama IV with its mixture of Thai, Chinese and Gothic architecture.

After stopping for a provided lunch, complete your full-day excursion with a riverboat cruise on the Chao Phraya River back to Bangkok. You’re treated to views of temples lining the riverbank, such as Wat Arun, before your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel.
