Bangkok is a city of contrasts - Buddhist temples, golden topped palaces, trendy sky bars, and traditional Thai living along the waterways - called khlongs - offering marvelous photo opportunities. This morning, head with your private guide to the historic center of Bangkok and start your day at Wat Suthat. Few visitors come to this temple early, so much the better to enjoy the monks melodic chanting ritual. It’s an incredible sensory experience. Then, a walk to Wat Pho (famous for its 141-foot-long reclining Buddha) takes you through small alleys with wooden houses, guardian spirit signs and lively fruit and flower markets. Pause at Lak Muang, Bangkok’s city pillar, well worth a five-minute detour before heading to the iconic Grand Palace and the adjacent Wat Phra Kaew, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. By now it’s time to enjoy a luxurious lunch and take in the scenic views at the Mandarin Oriental hotel's riverside restaurant, Sala Rim Nim and experience the mid-day bustling atmosphere of the lively Chao River. But you haven’t really arrived in Bangkok until you get out onto the river itself on a Long Tail Boat ride. So, after lunch, come and explore the khlongs and be amazed by the constantly changing sights, from Thai wooden houses on stilts to the many boats with sellers offering everything from fruit to souvenirs. Your day ends with a visit to Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn. Unique from the rest of Bangkok’s temples, its stunning design is made up of colorfully decorated spires and looks to stand guard over the river. Your guide can take you back to your hotel, or you might decide to stay and watch the sunset over Wat Arun from one of the rooftop bars across the river.

Bangkok is a city of contrasts – traditional temples, golden-topped palaces, sprawling expressways, and trendy, upscale malls. The Old Town of Bangkok is brimming with hidden sights best explored on foot early in the morning with your private guide. Walk from the Giant Swing via a public park, built on what used to be prison grounds, wandering through the sois and troks (side streets and alleys) tucked into the Old Town. Enjoy your encounter with wooden houses, guardian spirit signs, fresh markets, and local Thais going about their daily lives. Stop at the city pillar and Amulet Market to learn about ancient superstitions. The Amulet Market attracts collectors, monks, taxi drivers and people in ‘dangerous professions’ searching for talismans with a hidden meaning, and if they’re lucky, hidden value. End your morning with a luxurious take in the scenic views at the Mandarin Oriental hotel's riverside restaurant, Sala Rim Nim and experience the mid-day bustling atmosphere of the lively Chao River before returning to your hotel.

Bangkok’s bustling 200-year-old Chinatown district, also known as Yaowarat, has long been one of Bangkok’s most atmospheric neighborhoods. Wander down Chinatown’s narrow alleys with your private guide as steaming woks entice locals and travelers alike with mouthwatering aromas, and colorful fabrics. Jewelry, exotic herbs and neon lights add to the frenetic pace. Pause for a drink at a local rooftop bar (beer or soft drink included) and enjoy the stunning views of the sunset over the Chao Phraya River. Jump on a tuk tuk and head deep into Chinatown to really discover what the area has to offer, from small stalls with low-to-the-ground plastic chairs to regal restaurants. Sample Chinese dishes with a distinctively Thai spin, including dim sum, dumplings, fresh seafood, local desserts and more. Your private guide will help you navigate the staggering variety of culinary options for you to taste, providing insight into the local area and the distinct culinary traditions. Finish the evening with a drink (beer or soft drink) at an open-air bar, where you can relax in comfort and relish in the hustle and bustle of Chinatown.
